Toddy's Triathlon exploits follow his completion of the London Marathon in 2007, just a year after he was diagnosed with a potentially fatal skin cancer. The former centre had planned to retire at the end of 2006 to move stateside with his wife and family after being accepted to begin training as a chiropractor on a prestigious course in the USA. His diagnosis meant this was out of the question however.Instead, Toddy faced surgery to remove the malignant growth and an anxious wait to see if the cancer had spread.
Toddy received a donation from the RPABenevolent Fund in August 2006 to help with his initial medical costs and staggeringly, just over a year after his diagnosis, he was preparing to run the London Marathon in aid of the Benevolent Fund.
Toddy raised a fantastic £8,000 from his run - just don't ask him about his finishing time! Following extensive treatment and two operations, Toddy is currently in remission and has settled with his family in Bournemouth, where he is studying for that chiropractor qualification.
