The Rugby Players' Association (RPA) welcomes today's news from Premier Rugby and Diageo regarding the successful delivery and results from their attitudes to alcohol programme.
The RPA worked with Premier Rugby and Diageo throughout the preparation of the programme, and are delighted that it has been so well received by both players and management across the Guinness Premiership.
David Barnes, RPA Chairman said: "The players fully supported Premier Rugby on taking the initiative to put this programme together and the RPA helped advise on the content and structure of the sessions to engage with our members. We are very pleased with the positive response and collaborative approach to this educational initiative, which will help all players to make informed decisions."
Alex Anderson, RPA Head of Player Services added: "This is a very proactive initiative and enormous credit is due to Premier Rugby, its member clubs, and Diageo for successfully delivering this essential programme. I would also like to place on the record my thanks to the RPA Player Development Managers (PDM's) for their role in co-ordinating this important programme."
The RPA runs an Annual Induction Day for Academy players and delivers Social Awareness Seminars to all members, to help players prepare for, and manage their life as professional sportsmen in the public eye. Players can talk to their PDM about any off field matter and the RPA also provides professional help and advice through a dedicated Confidential Player Counselling Service provided by LPP Consulting.
