The Rugby Players' Association today paid tribute to Bill McLaren who passed away in Hawick this morning.
RPA Chief Executive Damian Hopley said "Bill was rugby to all of us fortunate enough to grow up listening to his lyrical commentary. He had such a magical way with words that he could make an all out brawl sound like a minor scuffle! Revered by players and fans alike, Bill's infectious love, knowledge and respect for the game inspired generations of players all over the world. He was such an integral part of rugby union that he will be sorely missed by everyone who had the unique pleasure to hear him commentate."
RPA Chairman David Barnes added "On behalf of all the entire RPA membership, we send our condolences to Bill's family. It is so sad that today rugby has lost one of its most treasured legends."
